Rumors have been buzzing that hip-hop legend and style icon, Kanye West, noted for making argyle sweaters appropriate apparel for the toughest of hip-hop artists, will be wielding his well-known swag into what might turn out to be a well-respected womenswear label. Central St. Martin’s professor, Louise Wilson, confirmed the buzz, claiming that West will be collaborating with British fashion designers and former Central St. Martin’s pupil, Louise Goldin. Is this “collaboration” simply the fashion world’s version of lip syncing? Will this line be struck with the all-too-common Mandy-Moore curse of fallen celebrity fashion labels? We will find out when Kanye debuts at New York Fashion Week, this September.

    Who: Leigh Lezark
What: Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup Polo Final
Wear: Peter Pilotto white silk dress, Nicholas Kirkwood silver python heels

It takes a little flair and a lot of audacity to make a polo match ensemble look edgy, and it seems that Misshapes DJ Leigh Lezark possesses a good amount of both. Looking innovative yet appropriate, Lezark donned a Peter Pilotto white silk dress from spring 2011 and Nicholas Kirkwood silver python heels to the Veuve this weekend. From the turntables to the turf, this DJ knows how to dress the part.

The fall 2011 couture collections came and went in a whimsical whirlwind. With them, we’ve seen a whole host of trends: colored animal prints, shimmery black and white styles, flowing ensembles, and bizarre and beautiful pieces. The gowns were enough to floor us, but we can’t forget that runway trends don’t stop at the clothing; we blissfully found one prevalent beauty trend in all the shows: the au naturale look.

Kids are having a great year, fashion-wise: Lanvin launched a tiny lux collection, Diane von Furstenberg teamed up with Gap, Fendi staged a runway show full of tots and Karl Lagerfeld put Chanel-clad kids on his Paris catwalk. But if you shy away from couture when it comes to your kid, thank Gwen Stefani. The singer, designer, model and mother of two is shrinking her Harajuku line into Harajuku Mini—a two part capsule collection launching at Target this fall. Stefani says it’s “a dream come true” and cites her usual inspiration, Japan, when talking about the soul of the collection. “The whole idea is about being creative, expressing your own individuality and having fun getting dressed,” she says. There will be clothes for boys, girls and babies and prices will range from $3.99 to $29.99. We’re not really sure why the logo is a hamburger, but it’ll sure look cute on a kid!

If a gang of 200 heel-clad fashion interns sounds like a well-dressed horror movie, you can take solace in their die-hard ambition. It was celebrated this weekend at Fashion Campus NYC, an event spearheaded by Parsons The New School for Design and NYC’s Economic Development Corporation that’s part of Mayor Bloomberg’s Fashion NYC 2020 plan to grow and sustain the city’s fashion industry by attracting the best of its future to America’s style epicenter. The weekend provided interns with a chance to network and receive invaluable career tips, all of which culminated with a poignant lecture by Derek Lam, moderated by Parsons’ Simon Collins, Dean of the school’s fashion department. Lam offfered these great tips among anecdotes of the trials and tribulations of building a modern fashion empire.

Kate Winslet’s St. John ads leaked about a month ago, but the brand’s ready to kick off their campaign with a behind-the-scenes video from their shoot. It’s far more interesting to watch an Acadmey Award-winning actress model on set than your average 18-year-old, especially when she’s posing for Craig McDean. “Kate is an ideal choice for our new campaign,” said St. John Creative Director George Sharp, the man behind their evolution. The short film, called Scenes of a Woman, was shot by Theo Stanley at an old movie theater in Jersey City. Though it’s hard for Winslet not to raise her voice on stage—”It’s my instinct in life really, just to speak really loudly”—she has no problem channeling her inner super model. She says of St. John, “The clothes are cut beautifully, the fabrics are elegant, you can look extremely chic without trying too hard. You don’t feel as though they’re clothes that only a model could wear…it’s a great thing to feel, that I’m wearing something that I believe in.”

When you heard that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were getting divorced, did you think first of their Gucci clad kids or the fate of their Kohl’s collection? If it’s the latter, don’t worry. Kohl’s released a statement this morning promising that neither collection will suffer just because the relationship’s over. Apparently, they have separate contracts. In November, when Kohl’s announced their partnership with the crooning couple, they were thrilled to be the first brand to introduce a collection designed by a married couple. Though their merchandise separately targeted men and women, they were sold and marketed as a package deal. Now, Kohl’s tells WWD, “The Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony brands have always been positioned as two separate, distinctive collections.” It’s a good thing, too, since Kohl’s has high hopes for both lines and set their profit goals quite high—that, and the collections don’t even hit stores until fall.

    Victoria Beckham with Harper Seven.

This weekend, Victoria Beckham Tweeted the first picture of the newest Beckham. Harper Seven, who’s just two weeks old, made her debut in black and white wrapped in a blanket in daddy David’s arms. Then this morning she posted another, “Mummy’s little angel! XVB” with Harper nestled under her neck. The baby looks about as perfect as one would expect from a Beckham. It’s probably time to start taking bets on which designer she’ll wear first. Thoughts?

Yes yes, we know. Emma Watson’s face is cemented onto every major fashion website right now. And many fashion magazines, too. We promise we’re not trying to overexpose her, but her makeup from the Deathly Hallows Part 2 premiere is too awesome not to talk about.

Ancient Egyptian artifacts have lasted thousands of years, and over that time, millions of people have visited museums and ancient monuments to be reminded of the culture, beauty, and style of the now long-gone society.
