Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Hello Everyone!

Every October is breast cancer awareness month also known as BCAM for short. We recognize this month to inform people about breast cancer and to raise money for  prevention and research into this disease. Here we have WeirdoPando to tell us a bit more about it:

Q-This campaign is very dear to your heart, what makes it so special for you?

A-My grandmother was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer at the age of 50, and she just barely beat it when she got a mastectomy at 65. This is why the breast cancer awareness movement is so important to me. Knowing the early signs of breast cancer can be essential to surviving it!

Q-What kind of message are you trying to spread in your campaign?

A-Mostly, I just want people to be aware of the early signs of breast cancer in order to keep themselves safe. 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer at some point in their lifetime, and 1 in 13 women die of breast cancer every single minute. Women who have a family history of breast cancer are much more likely to develop it. Even men can get breast cancer, although it is rare!

Q-Why should we support this campaign?

A-Because it's something that affects everyone! Even if you are fortunate enough not to get breast cancer, you probably will know, or may already know, someone who has gotten breast cancer.

Q-What's something we can do this month to help spread awareness?

A-Something I like to do every October on Stardoll is that I take off my doll's hair, dress in pink, and I put breast cancer facts on my presentation. This is a great way to spread awareness in the Stardoll community and get people talking about an uncomfortable topic, but it doesn't have to stop at just Stardoll! You can donate money to finding a cure for breast cancer (with parental permission, of course), you can hold fundraisers, and you can even go door-to-door in your community with a trusted adult to help spread facts about breast cancer. Self-examinations and early detection are key at surviving, and we should all look out for our fellow people!

Q-How can we learn more about breast cancer?

A- Search the web! You have an unending well of information at your very fingertips, and it can be very useful! I personally found all of my facts on the cancer organization site.

Well, there you have it! If you would like to learn more about WeirdoPando's campaign then make sure to visit her suite. Thanks for reading!
