Coloured Mascara: In or Out?

Hello, dolls!

Coloured mascara - one of the most dividing aspects of makeup. Whether you prefer the traditional black or are all for a pop of colour, coloured mascara has recently seen a bit of a reappearance. Falling in and out of popularity in the last decades, coloured mascara first became available in the 1960's. Revlon was the first brand to introduce hues such as mauve and green.

Popular in the late 1980's and early 1990's with the surge of neon fashion (look out for an 80's makeup tutorial, coming soon) it then fell out of fashion with the grunge movement of the later 1990's. However, it's back! Nowadays, coloured mascara is used as a feature in itself, rather than an addition to a look which can result in a jarring eye look.

Coloured mascara, particularly from Dot, are great choices for this look on Stardoll. I chose a burgundy mascara - very popular in makeup trends - to try out this look, whilst keeping it subtle. You could go for a bright purple, blue or green if you wanted to be bolder!

What are your thoughts?
