This month on our wellness tour I'd like to introduce you to you tai chi. Originally created as a method of self-defense, tai chi has evolved to a form of exercise now used for stress reduction and other health conditions. Often described as "meditation in motion," tai chi promotes serenity through flowing and gentle movements combined with deep breathing.  

Tai chi, also called tai chi chuan, is a self-paced system of exercise and stretching. Each posture flows into the next without breaking so that your body is constantly in motion.  

It is generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. Tai chi doesn't require any special equipment. You can practice it indoors or out, alone or in a group. Though tai chi is safe, consult your health care provider before trying it. Modification or avoidance of certain postures may be recommended. 

When learned correctly and performed regularly, tai chi can be a positive part of an overall approach to improving your health.
