Me vs. Who?

88 maanden geleden

A little competition is always fun. In elementary school, it's dodgeball games and races at recess. In high school friends like to compare gossip and have the best clothes. Everything from personal achievements to test marks to funny stories can turn into a competition...but is that really a good thing? In my own life my competitiveness and my tendency to compare myself to others has sometimes ended up hurting me, so I've needed to learn to recognize when it's a good time to compete and when it's not.

If it brings you down it's probably time to stop. If you can't stop comparing yourself to others and thinking about how you need to up your game to be better than them: slow down! Ask yourself what the point is; you can never be the very best at everything and no one is judging you because you scored a point lower on the test than your friend.

If it hurts your opinion of others the competition has probably gone too far. If you're feeling bitter and angry with someone over some competition, you need to step back, calm down, and think: Is it worth ruining a relationship over something so petty?

If it's not even a competition to begin with, why make it one? Makeup skills aren't a competition; you don't need to compare your contour to another girl's. The amount of time you spend volunteering, travelling, whatever...that's not a competition either.

If you can't stop comparing yourself to others, and feeling like you need to beat them somehow, remind yourself that you're great the way you are and there's no need to make everything a competition (but when it's fun, why not?).

Are you a competitive person?

Til next time!
