Runway Diaries: Perfecting the Invites and Trying on the Pieces

154 måneder siden

The last couple days have been crazy to say the least: between dealing with all the work for the production of the show, the samples for the Spring ’12 season, and all the orders for the Fall ’11 season, it seems as though there is never enough time in the day. My office has really been at the factory this week because between supervising the production and making sure all the Spring samples come in correctly. I spend my day constantly running around the garment district. It seems like we are always running out of some fabric or there in confusion in one note or another. So on nights like tonight I am at the studio until well past midnight catching up on emails and work that I wasn’t able to get accomplished during the crazy day. New York City is great, especially for my business with everything at your finger tips, however days like the past few have definitely make me appreciate when I am able to be in CT and work from one desk. I always make sure to work at least one day during the work week from my apartment in CT otherwise I would never be able to stay on top of emails. Unfortunately that day was Monday so there is no slowing down for the rest of this week…

Interns working on invites

This week is especially crazy as next week we are hoping to get all the invitations out! We have also been finalizing all the invitations, guest lists, and press releases with our publicist and branding team. The interns got the especially glamorous job of painting the insides of all the boxes that the invitations are going to be hand-delivered in! As I always say fashion design is definitely not all glamour, and this photo is proof! LOL. That said, our interns have been doing an awesome job, even for the most unglamorous of tasks! ;-)

Of course I have also been extremely busy as all the Spring samples are finalized. I really could not be happier with the way that Spring ’12 is coming together! The samples look beyond amazing!!! We are lucky because one of our interns works great as a showroom model (the models the designers keep in house to fit their clothing), and so we have more than taken advantage of that with lots of fittings! Today I got so excited about the collection that I actually started trying on some pieces on! There is such a difference between seeing a piece and then actually having the chance to try it on. It’s really important for me to have that connection with my clothes because I want to be able to say that I would wear any piece from the collection and pick it out from any store. I was definitely not disappointed with the Spring ’12 samples: they were just on the mark of looking very “downtown” cool and sophisticated while also making me feel good. I think that is something that is missing in the market, clothes for girls that have curves that want to enhance them with having to be “in your face good,” and I believe that we have achieved that perfectly this season with the right amount of tailoring and fabrication!! :)
