Queens of the Past

Queens of the Past

Zenobia (240-after 274 C.E.)
was a 3rd century Syrian queen of the Palmyrene Empire, who led a famous revolt against the Roman Empire. She was born and raised in Palmyra, Syria. Her Roman name is Lulia Aurelia Zenobia, while her name in Arabic is al-Zabbā. Zenobia with her large army conquered Anatolia as far as Ankara and Kadıköy, then on to Syria, Palestine and Lebanon.
In 279, Zenobia repotedly appeared in golden chains in Aurelian's militery triumph parade in Rome.
