Car Accidents

Car accidents are incredibly dangerous and scary. Sometimes they can be out of our control, especially if the other driver is liable. It's normal to feel emotional after a car accident, as it can be traumatic.

I was recently in a car addicent myself, which I am still recovering from. I have a fractured leg and heavy bruising but it's not the injuries that have affected me, it's the shock of the bang.

Here are some typical feelings that happen after a traumatic experience like a car accident:

- Shock. The shock kicks in instantly after the crash, and you can experience it days or even weeks after the event. This is totally normal to feel this way. Commonly, this comes with feeling scared of getting in the car again and emotional distress.

- Guilt. This is very common because you often think back to the accident and say to yourself 'What could I have done to prevent this?' People often blame themselves in car accidents even if it wasn't their fault.

- Anger. This can be towards yourself or the other person involved. It's easy to take anger out on yourself but remember that people are human and they do make mistakes. Aslong as you are safe and OK that is ALL that matters.

Talk about it to friends and family because they are there to support you, and they only car about your well-being - cars can be replaced, people cannot!

Remember to be a careful driver and always expect something might happen - so you are prepared to take action. Driving safely is important to not only yourself, but other drivers on the road.
