Memories From Many Trips

Kaftan, Aso-Oke, Djellaba; sound familiar? Perhaps not. Not unless you have attended an African wedding ceremony, anniversary or chirsteneing.
From bold colours to vivid prints, traditional African clothing is all about details, texture and patterns.
You know it - Africa is a large continent, consisting of hundreds of tribes, each with their own defined culture, so when referring to conventional African dress, you can imagine it covers attire from kikoy to skati!
When dressing traditionally, what is worn is mainly dependant on three factors: religion, climate, culture.
Natural fabrics are the preferred textiles to use for conventional clothing, and much attention is placed on the finish and quality.

This style has many influences on modern fashion; for example, John Galliano’s collection for Dior is heavily inspired his “memories of many trips all over Africa.” His memories are evoked via the “tribal chic” look where colour, fertility symbols and animal patterns are central to the collection.

Like Galliano, use traditional components to make a fashion statement and develop your own individual style!
