Paper Man, in which Jeff Daniels plays a frustrated middle-aged novelist who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a teenage girl, made its world premiere at the opening night of Film Independent’s Los Angeles Film Festival Thursday night. Among the boldface names who turned out for the event, at Westwood’s Mann Village theater, were Robert Downey Jr., Dermot Mulroney (whose brother Kieran co-directed the film), and Christina Ricci, who looked every bit the indie-film queen in a breezy lavender frock.
